New Calf

Meet our new kid on the (farm) block. Her name is Amber Lea and she was born at 9:30am on 16 August 2020, with help from Mark Young (Vets North) and myself. Exactly 1 year and 1 day after the beautiful Augie Auer. She was a large calf for the first time Mum, Maggie Mae, who needed help but she was born alive and well. Mum and Bubs are doing well and her name was chosen by a young person who visits the farm to help me feed them out.

In addition, the two young calves who arrived here as 4-week olds on 19 April have now joined "the big boys". Simba thinks he is bigger than he is and is mixing with the older steers beautifully. The slightly larger but gentler Curly, has become number 1 babysitter for Maggie. Whenever she moves away from her young calf to eat, he goes and sits by the calf to look after her and won't leave her until Mum comes back. Such a good example of how to be an older cousin lol…

Other than the new additions, the grass is growing amazingly for the time of year. Spring fertilising will happen around 4 September on the full moon and everything is going on as it should.
